“Magnum Opus Fine Coffees??? That’s some name to live up to,” I think to myself as I drive by this nondescript café. Turns out that I’m now eating my words, happily chasing them down with sips of cold brews, skillful pour-overs, plus the prettiest and best mocha that Manila has ever tasted.
I couldn’t be more grateful to Jonathan Choi, the owner and barista-in-residence of Magnum Opus Fine Coffees. Every beverage he turns out is exceptional. Exuberant and absolutely impassioned about coffee, Jonathan’s knowledge and ardor for his craft is evident. I continue to learn much from him and I’m truly, truly envious of all the people in the South who get to come here every day for their cup of joe.
Watch as I spend a rainy morning with Jonathan, pulling shots and shooting the breeze. And hey, turns out that people are more than willing to be extras in my podcasts and I’m more than happy to oblige. A big thank you goes to Jayvee Fernandez, my good friend and tech blogger / underwater photographer. Am also happy to have met Steff Someda, a DCF reader who stopped by during the shoot and fed us her super-moist double fudge cookies.
Kudos to you, Jonathan, for having me and my crew over. I swear, we drank so much coffee during the shoot, we rocketed home on pure caffeine. Props as usual, to my videographer, Bong Fernandez, who’s a latte kinda guy while I’m all about drinking my brew black.
The episode will stream in HD on this website. My previous podcasts can be seen here.
Enjoy, everyone! If nothing pleases you quite like a good cup of coffee, then I daresay that you’ll be heading to the South very soon.
