Hot off the press, it’s Kitchen Rescue by Chef Reggie Aspiras. Subtitled “Excerpts from the Philippine Daily Inquirer and then some…”, it’s a compilation of Aspiras’ columns from February 2003 ”“ July 2004.
The book is the debut publication by Emerald Holdings, Corp., the mother company of magazine distributor, Emerald Headway. I’m quite impressed with their debut into the world of publishing ”“ the book is printed on glossy paper, and the text inside is a visual feast with varying font sizes and colors for emphasis. It’s a departure from the usual newsprint paperback that most local cookbooks are printed on, and thank God for that. Hmm, I hope they’d consider publishing my book when it’s ready. Heheh.
I follow Aspiras’ column which comes out on Thursdays (food day for most local dailies!), so I’ve actually clipped out most of the material already in the book. Still, the book appeals to my more neurotic neat-freak since it’s nice to have all the columns bound together in one neat package.
I’ve been recommending this book to people who email me asking for where to buy baking ingredients There are also some terrific recipes here which I’ve tried like the banana cake and the old-fashioned chocolate cake. There’s a handy index of recipes for quick referencing as well as a directory of food and wine suppliers.
The future of Philippine cookbooks looks bright.
