Note: Every Thursday, post a food photo: it can be of what you’re eating, what you want to eat, etc. It can be shot with any device, from a mobile phone, tablet, to a regular camera – point & shoot or SLR. It’s all up to you but it must be YOUR photo, no ripping off of somebody else’s work. And please include a short description. We want to know what it is and where to eat it too, if possible.
I don’t get to bake anymore, not as much as I’d like to. I get a little sentimental sometimes, seeing the several baking posts that populated DCF’s earlier years. But I change – oh how times have changed too! – and so must the blog.
When I do get to bake however, I listen to what I want. My desire to bake is heavily dependent on my mood, it’s never been about anything else. Often, I’ll go to sleep at night with an idea of what I want, usually it’s a texture, like flakey and crisp; other times, it’s a flavor I toy with – white chocolate and cream cheese is a recent flirtation.
But today, I want bread. Just bread.
The food photos I’m sharing today are those of my butter rolls. They’re typical bread rolls made from an enriched dough, so called because it’s made richer with butter and eggs and milk. I could’ve rolled each dough ball into regular rolls but I’m feeling fancy this morning. Weighing out equal portions of dough, I use my metal bread scraper to roughly chop three chunks of dough which are then plopped – yes, that’s the word – into muffin tins. Ta-dah! Cloverleaf rolls. A swipe of butter for each clump, let rise ‘til doubled, then off to the oven they go. As they bake, the balls rise and curl over each other, making for an approximation, though roughly so, of a cloverleaf.
These bread rolls are unlike anything that I’ve found in any restaurant bread basket, baking up as aromatic bundles with a pillow-tender crumb. My morning couldn’t be any more fragrant or delicious.

Hi Lori!
I had this refreshing salad from Phat Wong. It’s a shrimp and pomelo salad nicely wrapped in coconut meat. The taste is subtle but good. I partnered this with a Banh Mi sandwich wrap and the combo was just perfect!
A filling but light meal for those of us who have to eat healthier every now and then.
Our experience wasn’t spectacular, to be honest. There were a couple of hits and misses and I guess I was just lucky enough to get a hit with my meal versus the orders of my companions who weren’t too satisfied with what they got.
Chances of me going back are slim as there are a lot of places I have to try pa! 🙂
Hi, Lori! Here’s my photo for this week. The special tibok tibok from Susie’s Cuisine in Pampanga! Creamy, sweet, and so good for the soul.
Oh dear. I wonder why the photo didn’t upload. Here’s my 2nd attempt at uploading it.

This is the BEST Tibok-Tibok, bar none! I know many people who, like me, were skeptical at first on how good it could be, then were converted on first bite.
No picture to post, but yours reminded me of the bread I ate yesterday. Have you eaten at The Alpha, Billy King’s restaurant in Alphaland? The bread they serve is just wonderful. I don’t kno what it looks like whole, but sliced, it looks somewhat like a baguette, except much lighter. It was so flaky, that it was like the bread version of puff pastry!
Very nice cover photo, Lori! This made me remember the bread and butter plate at La Girolle. The round one has this sweet epilogue which I liked.

Hi Lori! First time to post here although I’ve been a follower for the longest time.
I love cinnamon rolls so I started learning how to make them last year. It took me three times to get the texture that I really want. These rolls simply inspired me to start baking at home. Here’s a photo taken from a mobile phone. 🙂

i’m craving for these chocolate chips served in spiral’s dessert station. these bite-sized goodies are always freshly-baked with real chocolate chips. i can’t help nibbling it one after the other. since i tried them, i understood how cookie monster felt 😀 seriously, i’m tempted not to grab the whole cookie jar
Started my Thursday with a bowl of congee sprinkled with a generous amount of pork floss (my favorite!!) and a cup of strong Nespresso coffee. <3 <3

I need to go to Scout Fuentebella and get me some ensaymada again.

Sharing this green mango salad at Baan Thai, near UP Los Banos. 😉 I am always a sucker for dishes that are sweet, sour and spicy all at the same time!

today, i discovered the yema-filled buns from camiguin. at first glance, it doesn’t look to be anything special. but all it took was one bite to change my mind.. completely! the combined taste of the sweet, melted yema and the soft and slightly sweet bun was just divine! i don’t know how i ever thought it was blah.
unfortunately, i ate all of my 2 buns before i remembered to take a picture. 🙁
i did a quick google search and found a page that said the buns are available in st. francis square. so, i’ll be doing some bread-hunting there this weekend. 😀 😀 😀
If you are referring to vjandep pastel, you can find it at Rustan’s supermarket.
Z, they’re called Pastel de Camiguin. 🙂 Have you not had , Lori? They come in different flavors, but the yema is the classic — very good! Like a typical soft, yellow dinner roll, filled with dulce de leche. I’ve seen them in many places. Safe bet would probably be the open area of Market, Market.
You can also find Vjandep Pastel at Rustan’s Supermarket.
i think the yema buns you’re talking about is VJ Andep’s Pastel. Soft rolls filled with yema or a variety of jams. Lifted a photo off the net 😛

oops kinda late! just sharing a new discovery at 7-11. this big spicy asado siopao is so good and affordable 🙂 cheap thrill, eh? 🙂
