All You Need Is A Radio (A Dessert Comes First event)

Post round-up of event here.
Download on-air recording here.
My first job right out of college was for the now-defunct 103.5 K-Lite FM. Working as a newsreader during the unholy shift of 6-11 am, all I remember about the job was coming to work bleary-eyed and shivering my socks off in the glacial room known as the booth. I also remember the groupies who would visit the station hoping to catch glimpses of their favorite DJs.
Several years later, I am – quite nostalgically so – returning to radio, although for one night only:
Dessert Comes First on Mellow 94.7 FM

As a guest on his Mellow Nites program, DJ Marco and I will be talking about everything food and playing some terrific music in between. I hope that you’ll spend the evening with us and participate by calling/texting in your shout-outs, requesting a song, or just saying hey!

It’s been almost two years since my last DCF event so I’m super excited about this. The event will only be for Manila-based readers, however. 94.7FM doesn’t have their audio streaming up yet, but don’t feel left out just yet. My guesting will be taped so I’ll upload a recording of the event on this website shortly thereafter.

Based in Manila, Philippines, Dessert Comes First is a chronicle of the food-obsessed food writer, Lori Baltazar. This website is all about desserts, restaurants, coffee, and the pleasures of homebaking. Read more about me

This is great! Here in the East Coast, there is an NPR show called Food Schmooze with Faith Middleton on Wednesdays (the food day of the week). There’s always lively banter and humor, recipe and ingredient discussions, visits from chefs and news about coming festivals. All food-centric on the radio! What’s good is that people can also call in to ask or even answer food questions.
If Manila isn’t already doing this, you should grab it by the horns, Lori. There’s a glut of visual cooking aids (tv, web, cookbooks) but audio is a refreshing change sometimes. I’ll be looking forward to the uploaded recording!

How exciting! I hoped this was coming after your hints on Table for Three and learning of your meeting with DJ Marco (we used to work together). Sadly, I might be going out Tuesday night, so I’m relieved you’ll upload the recording here.
How nice to see we agree on the restaurants mentioned above. F has a clinic in Eastwood, and sometimes he’d bring home a slice of Dementia for me from Kooky and Luscious. I was thrilled when Bambi Sy-Gobio opened Damaso in Makati, with new scrumptious (and creative — I know you’re a cheesecake purist, but I find the quezo de bola cheesecake with santol jam delightful) desserts, and some delish savory dishes, as well (the Croque Monsignor is one of the most sinful sandwiches I’ve had). And although you probably go there for the steaks, for me, Myron’s is one of the very few restaurants that can satisfy my bread pudding cravings.
Good luck on your show, Lori! I’m positive you’ll be as charming and clever over the radio waves as you are online.

Woohoo! I hope one of the call-in questions will be either about CARAMEL or CARAMEL APPLES, hehehehehehe! ;-P

This will be fun! I’ll turn on my radio and listen in
I miss Klite too. All the reincarnations are so not worth the bandwidth.
