August is a good month to head on over to Fleur de Lys. From August 1-31, Fleur de Lys’ pastry chef-owner, Jackie Ang-Po, is offering a

10% discount for all Dessert Comes First (DCF) readers!

The discount covers everything on the menu, and not just the sweets. Should you choose to take your order out, it’s a 5% discount.

To all those people who’ve emailed to tell me that they live in Quezon City but have never been to Fleur de Lys, then now is THE time to go. There’s just no excuse anymore. While the patisserie may not have their famed strawberry pie since the berries aren’t in season, do go for their waffles, of which the peanut butter and banana ones are my favorite. The waffles are great for brunch or even a snack. If you like meringue desserts, try the Pavlova Picasso, one of my 6 best desserts for 2003.

I also highly recommend the macadamia pie accompanied with a scoop of ice cream. The macs are roasted, baked in a light caramel syrup, and sit on a crunchy shortcrust. Not too sweet or cloying, it’s an excellent dessert that highlights the nuts’ buttery taste. The mac pie also comes in a sugarfree version, including the ice cream. How’s that for having your cake (pie!) and eating it too! Of course classics can’t be beat: Fleur de Lys’ absolute all-time bestseller is The Next Best Thing, a mini motherlode of chocolate with a molten middle served warm and oozing.

Dulce & Gabanana pie (aka banana-caramel cream pie)

One of Jackie’s new offerings, is the Dulce & Gabanana tart, (P95/mini – P610/whole pie), a witty take on you-know-which uberbrand. Fresh bananas, chocolate, and dulce de leche are layered on a gingersnap crust nuanced with nutmeg and sugar. It’s one of those desserts that evoke fall, quite reminiscent actually of the rainy, cooler weather we’ve been having lately.

The mechanics are simple. Print out this coupon and present it to your server at Fleur de Lys before ordering. One coupon per receipt per day.     i was a assigned to do a story on them about 4 years ago, and i’ve been a loyal customer ever since :)

    whenever i feel down, i head to the cafe and order the Next Best Thing and Matte Latte “chocolate” tea.

  • Went to Fleur de Lys today—the macadamia nut pie was lovely, but The Next Best Thing wasn’t very pleasant for me—and (this is just me) but the ice cream scoops were waaay to tiny for me.

    The savory dishes look interesting!

    I would go back, but I don’t think I’ll order Next Best Thing again.
