For the cookie monster in you

“…there is no mood so foul or dark that cannot be brightened by a major chocolate chip cookie or two.” - Jeffrey Steingarten, food writer

Hear, hear, I say, which is why I’ve often wondered why most local bakeries don’t sell cookies. They’re just the thing for a mid-afternoon lift or when I don’t want anything too heavy.

Catherine Uy and Liza Ang saw this need to quell cookie monster cravings, thus Delicì (deh-LEE-chee) was born. “We started with cookies first because there’s a market for cookies; it’s just that the available ones aren’t as good or are way too expensive,” explains Catherine. Best friends since the 5th grade, they both hold full-time day jobs and bake at night. Talk about dedication. You go, girls.

Not even a year old, the business partners describe their eight types of cookies as “classic and unique.” Aside from the requisite chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal raisin, Catherine came up with cream cheese, a cookie version of cheesecake, if you can imagine that. I particularly liked how this cookie shimmered because of its sugar specks.

Other flavors include peanut butter with lots of peanuts. It happily reminded me of the same cookies I used to eat when I was in grade school. These were my Bin’s and my favorite. Chocoholics will find serious love in the chocolate swirl, a marbling of chocolate and butter cookie dough; as well as the double chocolate – its two kinds of gourmet chocolates prove that nothing succeeds like excess, except perhaps even more chocolate. There’s also a white chocolate cookie and the most innovative of the lot, a crushed graham cookie, which tastes like graham crackers, but more solid and with lots of chocolate bits.

Cookies taste best straight out of the oven and into a hungry mouth (mine, preferably). Catherine and Liza capture that just-baked flavor by individually sealing the cookies in plastic. Stored in this way, they keep for up to two weeks at room temperature and up to a month in the fridge. “We recommend microwaving the cookies for 3-5 seconds too,” Liza added.

Characteristic of cookies that are packed in plastic, Delicì’s cookies are thick and chewy, almost soft with plenty of flavor. If you’re the crunchy cookie type, these might not do it for you.

Flushed with the success of their first bazaar venture, the two friends are experimenting on sugar free products. Brownies and cakes are also in the offing.

There are two different packages for cookie monsters to choose from, Classic Favorites (P300/dozen) and Chocoholic’s Delight (P320 / dozen). Both packages include all the eight varieties offered. Preferences for particular cookies can be accommodated. Orders of five boxes and above include free delivery in Metro Manila.

I really want to try to come up with my own version of cheesecake cookies now. I can only imagine how much my family would like to taste something like that over the holidays.

Aagrharhrahgar coookies so many cookies…

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES ARE AWESOME! As are all the other cookies. I’d eat that stack in one sitting so it’s probably a good thing I can’t buy them.

I want a cookie now. Uhoh.

I am hitting Intercon on Dec. 4 to get my hands on the delightful Delici cookies! Thanks for the post, Lor.

On another note, the Delici cookies remind me of what the Oracle served Keanu. I remember having difficulty concentrating during those scenes.

The delici box reminds me of Donna’s Pastries. Is Donna’s still around? She makes the best food for the gods.
