Hey Lori. I'm going off to Singapore as well and your review of Jumbo (as well as the reviews on the Internet) has pretty much sold me to the place. My question is: How much was that order of crab? Just so I can prepare my budget. :P Thanks!

<blockquote class="quote">
 <p><b>Hi Gus,
Enjoy! Each order of crab (per kilo) is approx $32-$40 Sing.

When I go to Tokyo for business trips, my favorite tonkatsu restaurant there is Saboten.
Tonkichi's tonkatsu looks the same as the ones I gobble up in Saboten. I think even the plate looks the same!
Saboten also has unlimited cabbage and lets you grind/ground your sesame seeds for the dipping sauce.
So I don't know which resto came first or if they're actually the same, just different names (or management?).

Perfect timing! My wife and I, together with a couple of friends, are headed to Singapore on Monday. If possible, can you please indicate or privately email me the prices of the food featured here (most esp the chili crab)?
I've read that No Signboard's quality of food has declined over the past months/years. Pricey too! So it's Jumbo Seafood for us then.

I didn't try their chili crab, but I very much enjoyed No Signboard's white pepper crab. It was a taste I'd never had with crab before, and I all but licked the sauce off the plate. I hear the black pepper crab is delicious, too. And their cereal prawns were similarly memorable.

Have you been to Tao Yuan, Lori? I've been twice and left stuffed and smiling both times. Apart from their famous Hainanese chicken, they have good chili crab, also served with the fried bread. The white pepper crab was allright, but not half as exciting as No Signboard's. HOWEVER, their cereal prawns -- at an eye-widening price of P150/prawn -- was eye-rollingly good! HUGE prawns coated in crispy cereal and lots of butter...Next time I go, I will happily pay P300 for TWO prawns! :-D

Hi Lori,

Tonkichi is also the tonkatsu place to go to here in HK. There's an outlet at the World Trade Center in CWB. But HK being in love with all things Japanese, it wasn't difficult to discover another CWB Tonkastu place: Butagumi Tonkatsu, it's similar to Tonkichi sans the long lines.

Crystal Jade is another favorite here, but for Shanghainese la mian noodles and xiao long bao. I've always been impressed with their food quality despite being a huge chain.
