When I was on vacation in PI, the first visit to Bizu got me hooked. First try was mango chiboust and was delectable. On my other visits, I had a chance to try 6 other cakes. The tiramisu was the best. I tried a chocolate cake that was cylindrical and had square choco pieces on the outside, I love dark choc, but that one I felt was a bit heavy on the choc. Other than that the rest was great, their coffees I loved as well. I think if I lived there, I would visit Bizu quite often. This is definitely a must, in fact it makes a great after dinner date stop. It's a comfortable place to chat. Can we bring one to the US?

To the anonymous who wrote that the sponge cake layer in Opera being offered in Bizu is similar to a meringue is somewhat novice in the art of cake appreciation. The sponge layer is made of ground almonds of higher content which makes the layers quite less spongy but to make it more delicioso, the layer is drenched with imbibing syrup.

For info.

John Sta.
I hate to say this, but I was kinda disappointed with Bizu (greenhills). I had the "Opera", "Samba" and the blueberry cheesecake. While Samba was great and the blueberry cheesecake was okay, the Opera had a burnt taste - most probably the chocolate. It was faint, but it was still there. Also, the sponge cake wasn't soft at all. In fact I thought it was a meringue layer of sorts.

OPH MY GOD!

NYC doesn't have anything like that. No places with a gazillion kinds of macaroons, at least. :( Now I feel deprived haha...ah...*sob*. How much is P25 in US dollars? Afternoon tea sounds so delicious. That's too bad about nothing coconut or banana selling, as I LOVE COCONUT AND BANANA. I still remember one of the best desserts I ever had was a banana cream pie at a local restaurant whose pastry chef was amazing. ...but I like all desserts. :D

Joey-
After that tea I had with Anabel, I'm on my way to getting hooked on Bizu too! :P (my wallet will surely complain).

Jay-
Hey! Good to hear from you! :) I'm honored that my blog is read by you and your co-workers.

I still remember the time waaay back in college when we had hot chocolate at the Pen with a few other people. At the time, I thought that was the best hot chocolate I'd ever had. I've had a few other ones that are just as good, but the Pen still rocks.
Thanks for the tip on xocolat. Will try that soon.

Plenty of people have asked me about compiling my articles, a la Jessica Zafra (aka Twisted). I just might do that. :P

Hope to hear from you again!

lori

Thanks for writing about Bizu! I never thought of eating there either until I did, and then boy was I hooked! The little cakes, the chocolate truffles, all-day breakfast (always a great thing to have in my book!), and the glorious way it looks like the inside of a young courtesan's hatbox! And their 10-hour roast beef...YUM! It soothes both the needs of my tummy and my eyes at the same time. It's nice to hear the story behind it :-) Would love to read the whole article!
