What Do You Like To Eat When No One’s Looking?
(DiscOVIries Week 2)

cookie dough

Psst, you! I’m sure you’ve got a food that you just ache to eat when no one’s around.

When I was in college, I shocked my mom by whipping up a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough and then eating the whole damn thing straight from the mixing bowl. “But it’s raw!” She tells me, her face a study in dismay and barely-controlled disgust. I shrug and continue to eat. “You‘re going to get a stomach ache, mark my words!” She warns. (I didn’t.)

When chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream became available in Manila, Mom was even less supportive of it and more leery. “I can taste the raw dough,” she complained when she ventured a spoonful.

Now that I’m an adult, I eat all the cookie dough that I want; but it’s difficult to shake off the feeling that Mom is watching. So I only eat it when I’m alone in the kitchen, and barring that, in my pantry, with the door closed. It’s easy to love cookie dough. I like the feel of the (often) cold dough, its smoothness disrupted by pockets of chocolate chips, the grittiness of the sugar, and the dominance of the vanilla extract. Sometimes I think that raw dough is even better than the baked cookie. Sometimes when I have ice cream in the freezer, I’ll even mix in a scoop or so into the dough for instant chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

It takes me less than five minutes to whip up a batch of cookie dough but for the times I’m lazy, I like the frozen cookie dough of Ann Puno (seen in the photo above). So easy and convenient, I can bake this with my eyes closed. Ann’s dough is so buttery and bursting with chocolate chips that it borders on the excessive. So irresistible is it that Ann tells me that it’s also the only thing she can’t resist among all the other cakes she bakes.

So this week, share a photo of  FOOD YOU LIKE TO EAT WHEN NO ONE’S LOOKING. This photo can be taken with any camera or camera phone. What matters is that you open an OVI account. If you’ve already got one, then the rest should be easy.

Here’s what you have to do to join:

  • Create an OVI account and activate your OVI email address.
  • Upload a photo into my OVI share folder (Yes, you can really drop a photo into my folder!) Just in case you’re prompted for a password to my folder, it’s “food”.
  • For every photo you enter (yup, send multiple photos if you like!), please include your name, your OVI email address ([email protected]) and a short description about your photo.

Criteria:
I’ll be looking for 2 things: how “risqué” your food rates; obviously, eating blueberry lollipops in secret isn’t as attention-getting as say, eating fried pork fat and rice. And of course, your photo has to be clear. Blur is bad.

Contest Mechanics:
1. This week’s contest is open from Oct. 5-11, 2009.
2. Get your photo(s) in for this week’s theme by Sunday, Oct. 11, at 11:59 PM.
3. The prize for this week is P2,000.00 worth of Ayala Electronic Gift Check (as good as cash!)
4. You need to be a resident of the Philippines.

Announcement of the winner of DiscOVIries by Nokia Week 2 will be made on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

There’s a grand prize to be given at the end of the 8 weeks but I won’t tell you yet what it is. (wink!)

Kudos to OVI by Nokia for making this contest possible.

  1. Hi Lori, I’m too tamad to send you a photo so I’ll just tell you. I love tuyo and egg, I’ll even use my hands when no ones is looking =) but if you want something more risque, a thick slice of very cold unsalted lurpak butter drizzled with condensed milk on pan de sal. Tastes like an ice cream sandwich, only better!

Chris, tell you what. You make it and I’ll take the picture. That butter-condensed milk combination sounds killer!

  2. I’m a sucker for eating mixture before it’s cooked, and as of today I’ve yet to be ill for it! Sometimes tastes better before it’s cooked than after!!!

  5. Embarrassing to ask this, but may I know how to submit a photo? The upload button I’ve seen on other Ovi folders doesn’t appear on the contest folder, even though I was logged on the whole time. Do I need to do something special, like add you to my contacts, upload photo to one of my own folders, or eat balut while skipping blindfolded before pressing click?

Oooh, it’s working now. (I think the balut trick did it.)
