Sexy Like A Strawberry & A Brownie Too

The Strawberry
A friend texts me today, “Chocolate and strawberries… best flavor combination. Ever.”
“Uh, hello, classic romance pairing,” is my rather jaded reply. “And I don’t want to know if someone’s feeding them to you right now.”
“Haha, no.” I can almost hear his guffaw through his texted reply. “But I had no idea they were so good together. I’m going out now to get some.“
I’m quite the cynic when it comes to romance, I think. Chick flicks make my toes curl and while my Bin plays a part in some of my posts, I steer clear of melodrama. Writing about food however, is another story altogether.
Still, piqued by my friend’s message, I ask him exactly which chocolate and strawberry combination he’s referring to. For some reason, I’m not surprised when he tells me that it’s the new flavor that Magnum has unveiled, and right smack during love month, too.
Unwrapped, the new Magnum Chocolate & Strawberry could pose as the Magnum Classic: a coating, crackly and seamlessly smooth. But a bite sends it splintering, shards scatter and vanilla ice cream begins to drip in. But wait. Somewhere, strawberry: in sauce and swirl, seeping in. Tinges of pink, a love flush and fevered flavor of the fruit. Flitting then filling the mouth, it tastes like the real thing and is dominant over the chocolate and vanilla. The threesome melds and melts, a passionate chill tumbling on the tongue.
Romance blooms and the love affair begins.
The Brownie
For those who refrain from romance, consider the Magnum Chocolate Brownie, a flavor that’s got moxie. Ripped from its wrapper, it stirs sensations on first sight, promising thrills with its craggy cover of cashews, cluttering that yet again crackly cloak of chocolate. But what’s excitement without mystery? And here it comes, the moody nature of dark chocolate.
Stating its intentions loudly and proudly, the crunch of cashews competes with the crackle of the coating. Colliding then collapsing, chocolate cascades in. Don’t look for bits of brownie – you won’t find them. Because here, brownie is what flavors the ice cream, and isn’t suggestion powerful seduction? But it’s there alright, notes of cocoa fruity and light tiptoeing on the tongue before dark chocolate dominates with its smoke and roast, the first and last flavor I taste.
Two ice cream bars eaten now in quick succession – Magnum Chocolate & Strawberry and Magnum Chocolate Brownie. I feel cool inside but my skin is warm. Senses engaged and my heart pumping, everything suddenly looks so rosy. And romantic.
So maybe I’m not such a cynic after all. Now excuse me while I go look for my husband.

As much as it pains me to disagree with you Lori, I must say I did not get much strawberry flavor in my Magnum Chocolate Strawberry, sadly. In fact, I had some bites that had zero strawberry ripple in them. But I was actually expecting strawberry ice cream inside, so maybe that’s why it was such a letdown for me. I will give the Chocolate Brownie a try.

I have to agree with Ailee. I was initially expecting strawberry ice cream. When I read the label saying it was just vanilla ice cream with strawberry ripple, I was expecting more than the scanty slivers that were in the actual bar. A MAGNUM disappointment.
